After Being Beaten By Argentina In The Finalissima, Mancini Promises To Fix The Italian National Team

JAKARTA - The Italian national team coach, Roberto Mancini promised to fix his squad. This was stated following the defeat they suffered from the Argentine national team in the Finalissima match, Thursday 2 June 2022.

In the match at Wembley Stadium, Gli Azzurri lost 0-3 to Argentina through a Lautaro Martinez brace and an Angel Di Maria goal.

This defeat became the second bitter pill for the Italian national team after a shock defeat in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. In the match not last March, Mancini's men lost to North Macedonia which also made them fail to go to Qatar.

Learning from that moment, now Mancini is determined to fix his squad considering the last few months Italy's performance has decreased.

"After this game (against Argentina), we had thoughts of changing a few things and we will. We need to find the players, put together a team that will suffer at the start and which in the future will be able to give us joy," Roberto Mancini told reporters. Sky Sport Italia quoted from Livescore, Thursday.

"In the first half we made two mistakes on their two goals, then they were better at keeping the ball. There is regret not having qualified for the World Cup, and tonight's game was balanced at first, then they had more quality than us."

Regarding the promised changes, Mancini admitted that he would focus on the attack sector. He realized his team was struggling to score goals lately.

"We have great difficulty scoring goals at the moment. After the European Championship we struggled to score goals and we have to find a solution in this. We have to make as few mistakes as possible."

Finalissima is a match between the winners of the previous season's South American (CONMEBOL zone) and European (UEFA zone) championships. Argentina is the winner of the 2021 Copa America and Italy is the winner of the EURO 2020 trophy.

The match between Argentina and Italy this morning was the third edition of the Finalissima after only being played twice, in 1985 and 1993.
