First Gold Donation In SEA Games Swimming, Masniari Wolf: Incredible Achievement, I Didn't Expect

JAKARTA - Indonesian swimmer Masniari Wolf contributed the first gold medal in the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games swimming at Aquatic Sports Palace, National Sports Complex My Dinh, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Masniari, who is a swimmer of Indonesian-German descent, won gold in the women's 50m backstroke. He finished the fastest with a time of 29.21 seconds.

The silver medal in the women's 50m butterfly was secured by the Filipino athlete Geriane Taguba (29.35), while the bronze medal went to another athlete from Indonesia, Anak Agung Istri Ratih Atmaja (29.59).

“This gold medal is a great achievement for me. I didn't even think I could donate gold to Indonesia," said Masniari after the competition was quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 15.

Previously, the Indonesian swimming team had not been able to achieve maximum results on the first day of the sport being competed at the SEA Games, last Saturday, winning only one silver and two bronze.

The silver medals were contributed by four male swimmers who competed in the 4x100 meter freestyle relay, namely Victor Sutanto, Erick Ahmad Fathoni, Aflah Fadlan Prawira and Joe Aditya Wijaya Kurniawan.

While the bronze medals were presented by two men's swimmers, Gagarin Nathaniel in the 100m breaststroke and Farrell Armandio Tangkas in the final in the 100m backstroke.
