JAKARTA – The badminton championships for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup will be rolling this weekend. The full schedule of this very prestigious event can be seen in the following review.

According to the BWF's official schedule, the men's and women's team competition will start on the nearest Sunday, May 8 and end on May 15 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Indonesia is the defending champion in the Thomas Cup. In the previous edition in 2021, Thomas' team ended a 19-year title drought after beating China.

Meanwhile, this year's Thomas team will fill Group A along with South Korea, Singapore and Thailand. The Red and White Team faced Singapore in the first match of the group stage, followed by Korea and Thailand in the last match.

Indonesia is targeted to be able to defend the title in the Thomas event with a strength of 12 players sent. Of the names sent, only Marcus Fernaldi Gideon was not in the squad because he was still recovering after surgery.

Included in the departing squad are the 2022 All England champions Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and the veteran pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.

As for the Uber Cup, the Indonesian team is in Group A along with Japan, France and Germany. Bilqis Prasista and friends are expected to go further after last year's edition only reached the quarter-finals.

The team of Thomas and Uber departed from Jakarta to Manila, Philippines, in the early hours of Tuesday, May 3. They will pick up other players who have just finished competing in the 2022 Asian Championships in the Philippines.
