The Indonesian Badminton Team For The Asian Championships Leaves For The Philippines, The Target Is To Bring Home The Title

JAKARTA – The Indonesian badminton team for the 2022 Asian Championships departed for Manila. A total of 20 representatives flew to the event with high spirits to bring home the championship title.

They left for the Philippines in the early hours of Saturday, April 23. This team flew with Philippine Airlines (PH 536) through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten.

"I'm targeting our core team to win here, while the back-up players can gain experience and get as many points as possible," said Head of Binpres PP PBSI Rionny Mainaky in an official statement received by VOI.

The 2022 Asian Championship is so important. Apart from the large points, this event is also an opportunity to measure the ability of the team and opponents ahead of the 2022 Thomas-Uber Cup and 2021 SEA Games.

Rionny said all the players went there in a fit and excited condition. For that, he hopes that this tournament can be used as a warm-up event ahead of the two prestigious tournaments.

"It is also a benchmark for the readiness of our players and a peek at the strength of other countries, especially Asia. Here, top players will indeed come to compete. It's a good opportunity for us," he said.

Included in this group are All England 2022 champions Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. The couple didn't have much to prepare for having just arrived from Korea.

"This has become a job risk, we have to be ready and give our best," said Fikri.

Meanwhile, the women's singles representative, Putri Kusuma Wardani, said she couldn't wait to perform. This is Putri's first experience appearing in a top-level tournament.

"Preparations have been good, a bit tense but I can't wait to compete," said Putri.

"I want to get as many points as possible, this is my first chance to appear at the top level. Hopefully, I can bring out my best abilities later," said Putri.

The 2022 Asian Championships will take place on April 26 - May 1 at Muntinlupa Sports Complex, Manila, Philippines. The following is a list of Indonesian representatives.
