The U-23 Indonesian National Team Is In The Same Group With Vietnam In The 2021 SEA Games Preliminary, Shin Tae-yong Says Vietnam Is A Candidate For Champion

JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team is in the death group at the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi. The Garuda Muda squad is in Group A along with Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines and Timor Leste.

Vietnam is clearly the main threat. Apart from being the host, Vietnam's strength is no longer in doubt at the Asean level.

Responding to the draw, the coach of the U-23 Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong, was not so worried. According to the South Korean coach, his team will continue to struggle to penetrate the final.

"Regarding the draw for the SEA Games, Vietnam is indeed there and they may be potential winners as well. Still, we will try our best to reach the final," said Shin Tae-yong as quoted from the official PSSI website.

The former South Korean national team coach added that he would ask PSSI to send them to Hanoi sooner. The reason is, the U-23 Indonesian National Team will play the first match on 6 May.

"I will talk to the federation so that we can get to Vietnam more quickly on time," he said.

Shin Tae-yong himself has announced the list of names for the Indonesian U-23 national team players. Of the 29 names, there are several players who have careers abroad, such as Elkann Baggott (Ipswich Town), Witan Sulaeman, Egy Maulana Vikri (FK Senica), Pratama Arhan (Tokyo Verdy) and Saddil Ramdani (Sabah FC).
