JAKARTA - Christian Eriksen said he was "very happy" to join the Danish national team, nine months after suffering a heart attack.

As AFP reports, Eriksen has rejoined the national team ahead of friendlies against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Saturday and against Serbia in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

"I'm very happy and excited to be back with the national team again. It's been a long time, so I'm very happy to be back," said the midfielder in Marbella, where the Denmark squad trained, Thursday local time quoted by Antara.

Eriksen suffered a heart attack in Denmark's opening match at the European Championship against Finland in Copenhagen last June.

He lay unconscious for several minutes as those around him were stunned and millions of television viewers around the world watched in horror.

Eriksen spent several days in hospital and had a pacemaker put in to regulate his heart rate.

Eriksen, who has scored 36 goals in 109 appearances for Denmark, terminated his contract with Inter Milan by mutual agreement in December because Italian league rules prohibit players from using pacemakers.

He made his club comeback on 26 February for English Premier League side Brentford.

"Everything is fine to be back playing again and that of course gave me the impetus to bring me back to the life I had before."

A heart attack, Eriksen adds, "it's hard for everyone.... we have a lot of conversations, of course, to walk around and talk about everything that's going on".

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand said Eriksen's return was a "good feeling, of course, we are happy to have him here".

"Yesterday was an exciting moment, when he came into the group, and it's great to have him back."

Denmark have qualified for the World Cup in Qatar at the end of this year.

At last year's Euros, after Eriksen's heart attack, Denmark reached the semifinals where they lost to England.
