JAKARTA – Construction of the Formula 1 (F1) circuit in Lagoi Bintan, Riau Islands Province, will start soon. This circuit will follow the Mandalika Circuit which puts forward the concept of natural scenery.

Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), Bambang Soesatyo, said that the groundbreaking marking the start of the project will be carried out on the nearest 17 March. The figure who also serves as Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly will attend the stone-laying event directly.

"Currently the study team is finalizing the Detail Engineering Design (DED) related to technical soil and natural conditions where the Bintan F1 International Circuit will be built", said Bambang in a statement on the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly website on Monday, March 14.

DED Bintan F1 International Circuit is planned to match the concept of the Circuit in Mandalika which emphasizes natural scenery. The Bintan F1 International Circuit will be designed to offer a beautiful view of the Bintan sea.

The Central IMI targets the Bintan F1 International Circuit to be the grandest circuit in the western region of Indonesia. This circuit will later be used to hold various world automotive events, ranging from sports car racing, Moto GP motorcycle racing to Formula 1.

Reflecting on Mandalika, the construction of the Bintan F1 International Circuit is predicted to have a major impact on economic growth and regional original income.

"Along with the entry of many local and foreign tourists from Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries. Apart from supporting automotive sports tourism in the western region of Indonesia", said Bambang.

The Bintan F1 International Circuit will be built on an area of 75 to 100 hectares. This project has been studied by a team of consultants from England, Populous, who have designed many motorsport arenas in various countries around the world.

At least two land areas have been prepared for the construction of the circuit. The area is adjacent to Lagoi Bay lake and behind Pasir Panjang Beach.
