Mixed Doubles Aground, Indonesia Runs Out Of Representatives At German Open 2022

JAKARTA – The struggle of the Indonesian badminton team at the German Open 2022 is over. This is after the two representatives of the remaining mixed doubles were eliminated.

Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso who reached the quarter-finals were unable to continue their journey after being eliminated on Friday, March 11 afternoon local time.

Quoting Antara, on the fourth day of the match, the Rinov/Pitha pair became the representatives of Indonesia who were initially eliminated when they faced fifth seed Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith from England.

Rinov/Pitha could not repeat the success of defeating Marcus/Lauren as in the last meeting at the Swiss Open 2019. In the second meeting which took place in Germany, the mixed doubles ranked 22 lost to the rubber game 21-16, 16-21, 19-21.

Indonesia started the match well by winning the first game. Even Rinov/Pitha could create a six-point difference in the mid-game with a score of 15-9.

However, Rinov/Pitha's advantage could not be maintained in the second game. Marcus/Lauren changed their style of play and immediately pressed on from the start of the second game until the score was 0-7 leaving the Indonesian pair.

Tight competition had occurred and both pairs exchanged attacks, but Marcus / Lauren equalized after winning the second game.

Rinov/Pitha once again had to work hard in the decisive game, plus their opponents were also more aggressive to add points. Indonesia had a 13-10 lead, but was chased back and could not maintain the advantage after struggling for 66 minutes.

Adnan/Mychelle also experienced a rubber game that ended in defeat against Adam Hall/Julie Macpherson from Scotland in the last match session of the fourth day.

Adnan/Mychelle just felt the pressure from the first game and only got comfortable in the second game with the score draw to force the decisive game to be played.

However, the 31st ranked mixed doubles had to experience pressure and stiff competition in the third game. They also had to submit to the advantage of the 51st-ranked pair after struggling for 56 minutes.
