JAKARTA - Kevin Magnussen on Wednesday rejoined the Haas team to replace Russian racer Nikita Mazepin who was sacked following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Haas said the 29-year-old Magnussen had signed a "multi-year contract agreement" and the Dane would be driving in official pre-season tests in Bahrain from this Thursday through Saturday.

"I am delighted to welcome Kevin Magnussen back to the Haas F1 Team," said Guenther Steiner, Haas team boss.

"When looking for a driver who can add value to this team, not to mention his experience in Formula 1, for us Kevin is the right decision."

Mazepin's contracts and Haas' Russian sponsor Uralkali were terminated last Saturday as a result of their country's invasion of Ukraine.

Mazepin's father, Dmitry, is a non-executive director of Uralkali specializing in potash.

Magnussen, a veteran with 119 career starts in Formula One and making his podium debut in 2014, previously raced for Haas between 2017-20 after joining McLaren and Renault.

He scored a career-high ninth finish in the world championships with Haas in 2018.
