FIFA Mourns 2 Ukrainian Footballers Killed: Words Are Not Enough To Express This Sadness

JAKARTA - President of the Ukrainian Football Association (FFU), Andriy Pavelko received a letter from FIFA containing his condolences regarding the two Ukrainian players who were killed in the Russian attack.

The two Ukrainian players are Vitaliy Sapil who plays for FC Karpaty and Dmytro Martynenko who plays for FC Gostomel. The departure of the two, said FIFA, will not make their contribution to football forgotten.

“I would like to express my sincere condolences for the tragic passing of football players Vitaliy Sapil and Dmytro Martynenko. Words don't seem to be enough to express the sadness we feel at this loss," FIFA president Gianni Infantino wrote on the FFU's official website.

On behalf of the international football community, Gianni Infantino also did not forget to express his deepest condolences to FFU, FC Karpaty and FC Gostomel.

"To the family, teammates, friends and loved ones of Vitaliy and Dmytro, our thoughts are with all of you," FIFA said.

"We hope that, in some ways, words of support can help bring peace and comfort in this time of grief," FIFA continued.

Sapil was killed in a battle near Kiev. He was directly involved in the incident because his last status was no longer a footballer but had joined the Ukrainian military and became a tank commander.

Meanwhile, Martynenko was reportedly killed in a bomb attack that hit his residence. At that time he was still in the house.

The victims of Russia's war with Ukraine in football circles did not stop at the deaths of Vitaliy Sapil and Dmytro Martynenko. The coach of the youth team Shakhtar Donetsk is also said to have been killed by a bullet from the Russian troops.

The news of the death of the coach of the youth team was reported by the General Director of Shakhtar, Sergei Palkin.

"One of our employees died yesterday. The coach of the children," Donetsk said in a statement quoted by Sport Bible.

"He was killed by Russian shrapnel. Russia, you killed Ukrainians. Stop this madness! Don't be silent, speak up," Donetsk added.
