Indonesian Tennis Team Manager Prepares Christopher Rungkat And M Rifqi For The Opening Match Against Venezuela

JAKARTA – Tennis players Christopher Rungkat and M Rifqi Fitriadi will be prepared to play in the opening match against Venezuela. They are also likely to play in doubles.

The Indonesian Davis Cup team will host Venezuela in the Group II play-off match at the Bung Karno Tennis Stadium, Jakarta, 4-5 March 2022. Two singles matches will be the opening match for the inaugural meeting between the two countries.

"Christo/Rifqi can play doubles too," said Indonesian tennis team captain Febi Widhiyanto in a written statement received by VOI.

The duel between Indonesia and Venezuela in the Davis Cup will take place in five matches. The details are four singles matches and one doubles match.

Besides being prepared for singles, Christo and M. Rifqi are also likely to be paired in doubles. The doubles match will be the opening match on the second day.

"We are still seeing who is the most prepared before the D day," said Febi.

Venezuela, who came in 57th position, is the fifth seed from 12 Group ll tie. Meanwhile, Indonesia is the non-seed with the highest ranking (65).

This match will be decisive for Indonesia to stay in World Group II or be relegated to Group III.

Indonesia had to play a play off match after losing to Barbados at the National Tennis Centre, Saint Michael, Barbados. In the match which took place on 17-18 September 2021, Indonesia lost with a score of 1-3.

The order of the matches is determined from the draw made on Thursday, March 3. Both teams can still change the pair proposed during the draw up to an hour before the match.
