JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has decided to reduce the number of MotoGP spectators at the Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on March 18-20 from the initial plan of 100 thousand people to 60 thousand spectators.
This was decided by President Jokowi in the Limited Meeting of PPKM Evaluation with a number of ministers on Sunday, February 27, as stated by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a virtual press conference post-meeting.
"The President's directive regarding Mandalika, which originally had 100 thousand viewers, has been reduced to 60 thousand with the current situation," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga as quoted from the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat reported by Antara.
The decision was taken after reviewing the current situation regarding active COVID-19 cases and vaccination rates in Central Lombok and NTB districts.
The Coordinating Minister reported that in Central Lombok Regency the rate of vaccination for the first dose of COVID-19 had reached 91.5 percent, the second dose was 74 percent and the third dose or booster was only 1.2 percent.
While overall in NTB the rate of vaccination for COVID-19 for the first dose was 91.4 percent, the second dose was 65.3 percent and the booster dose was 2.6 percent.
"And of course in terms of the number of active cases in NTB there are 3,200 with a BOR (hospital occupancy rate) of 20 percent, this is below the national level," said the Coordinating Minister.
Previously on Monday, February 21, Coordinating Minister Airlangga had also said that the active cases of COVID-19 in NTB had surpassed the peak of the Delta variant wave, but the trend had decreased.
Furthermore, the Coordinating Minister also ensured that the government would continue to accelerate the realization of the second dose of vaccination and booster doses in the local area as a mitigation and preparation step before the second MotoGP series of 2022 season.
