The Group Phase Is Complete, Here's A List Of Countries That Qualified For The Round Of 16 Of The African Cup Of Nations

JAKARTA - The final group stage match in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations has been completely completed on Thursday, January 20. From the last match, the results of the countries that were entitled to advance to the round of 16 were obtained.

Four matches in Group E and Group F resulted in six countries winning tickets to the knockout phase.

In the match between Ivory Coast and Algeria which ended in a draw, Les Elephants' squad automatically won Group E and guaranteed them to advance to the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Algeria, which has the label of defending champion, had to be willing to lose the title because it failed to qualify for the group phase. Riyad Mahrez and his friends even only occupy the caretaker position in Group E.

Shifted to Group F, there was Mali as the group winner who clearly advanced to the last 16 of the African Cup of Nations. The result was achieved after securing a 2-0 victory over Mauritania.

Mali's companion from Group F to advance to the round of 16 is Gambia. With runner up status after a 1-0 win over Tunisia, Gambia has one place in the advanced round.

Interestingly, even though Tunisia bowed to Gambia in the final match, they still got a slot in the round of 16. This is because they are in the top three category. Likewise with Comoros from Group C.

Before these six countries won tickets to the last-16 of the 2022 African Cup of Nations, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Senegal, Guinea, Malawi, Morocco, Gabon, Nigeria, and Egypt had already secured positions.

The 2022 African Cup of Nations last 16 will take place on Sunday, January 23. The inaugural match will be opened by the duel of Burkina Faso vs. Gabon in the knockout phase, then there will be a duel between Nigeria vs Tunisia.
