JAKARTA - The President Director of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) Junas Miradiarsyah said he had obtained permission to bring in a limited number of spectators for the 2022 season competition which will start on January 15 at the Bung Karno Basketball Hall, Jakarta.
"We have received permission to invite spectators but with health protocols ... Later there will be another meeting on January 7 at the Senayan Basketball Hall with all parties including BNPB, the Indonesian Police, the regional government for the final finalization regarding the audience," Junas said at a media meeting in Jakarta , Thursday quoted by Antara.
The requirements for spectators who can watch the IBL match live, among others, are that they have carried out a complete COVID-19 vaccination and have shown a negative antigen swab result. Meanwhile, ticket purchases can only be made online and the committee will not provide ticket sales on site.
Junas said the number of spectators in each city will be limited differently. For Jakarta and Bandung, for example, the committee only allows the attendance of 15-20 percent of the GOR capacity or around 500 people.
Meanwhile, the number of spectators in Yogyakarta and Bali is likely to be higher, reaching a maximum of 50 percent of the stadium's capacity.
"For us, the target for 2022 is not to fulfill the GOR because we know the pandemic situation is not over yet, especially today in Jakarta there is still an increase in COVID-19 cases," he said.
"So for us, whatever (percentage) the government has approved is more than enough, it means that players can return to play in the presence of fans and their families without having to wait more than a year," Junas added.
IBL 2022 will be held in six series in six cities. The first series takes place in Jakarta on January 15-22, continues to Bandung on January 29-5 February, Yogyakarta on February 10-16, Solo 3-9 March, Surabaya 13-19 March, and Denpasar 24-30 March.
This season IBL will also bring in foreign basketball players after the previous season only had local players. There are 30 imported players who will strengthen the 15 participating IBL 2022 teams.
