After The 2020 AFF Cup Runner Up National Team, Egy Maulana: The True Winner Doesn't Stop Trying

JAKARTA - National team midfielder, Egy Maulana Vikri welcomes the runner-up title won by the Garuda Squad in the 2020 AFF Cup. Although he has not been able to win the title in Singapore, Egy is still grateful and uses it as motivation.

Through his Instagram page, Egy said that achieving the runner-up position in the 2020 AFF Cup would be a lesson for him personally. In the upload that was shared on Saturday, January 1, Egy also mentioned the true winner.

"The true winner is he who never stops trying even though he falls repeatedly," he said accompanying the latest photo.

In that upload, Egy showed several photos of himself and his fellow teammates after finishing the final against Thailand at the National Stadium, Singapore.

The meeting with Thailand in the final was a crushing blow for the national team, which actually escaped from the group phase as champions. Because from the final leg he faced, the national team was massacred by war elephant troops.

In the first leg, Wednesday, December 25, the Garuda squad lost 0-4. This situation made Evan Dimas et al had to fight harder in the second leg. At a minimum, they must score four points to be able to win on aggregate.

However, despite continuing to strive to appear optimal and optimistic, the second leg final match which took place on Saturday 1 January also did not meet expectations. Even though the national team managed to hold on to a 2-2 draw, the aggregate score still didn't produce anything sweet.

As a result, the national team had to settle for the title as runner-up for the 6th time in the AFF Cup. Meanwhile, Thailand is increasingly soaring because it is able to prove as the best team capable of winning the AFF Cup 6 times since 1996.
