City Win 8 Points From Chelsea And Called Strong Candidates For Champions, Guardiola: Thanks For The Compliment, But There Are 54 More Points Up For Grabs

JAKARTA - Pep Guardiola says the "extraordinary" qualities of Chelsea and Liverpool make it impossible to believe that Manchester City is on course for a fourth Premier League title in the last five seasons.

In the last game against Brentford, this morning City won 1-0 so the reigning champions are now eight points clear of their nearest stalker.

In Premier League history no team has gone eight points clear until the end of December that has failed to win the league title.

However, Guardiola did not want to be careless and on the contrary, stated that the competition was still going on.

"We did win this game, are in good form, but it's the end of December, so there will be a lot of games like this," Guardiola said after the win against hosts Brentford.

"Yes, we are eight points clear, but there are 54 more points up for grabs."

"54 points to play for. 54. We were 4-0 up against Leicester but 20 minutes later it was 4-3. Thanks for the compliment because we won, but I wouldn't think it was all over because Chelsea are European champions, and Liverpool are very amazing," he continued.

"There are still 54 points up for grabs. We have to go back to London this Saturday and play at 12:30, so let's just move on," concluded Guardiola.
