Calling Indonesian Supporters Emotional, Egy Maulana Vikri: I Don't Know What To Say

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team will fight for the 2020 AFF Cup title by serving Thailand in the final round. Ahead of the first leg tonight, Egy Maulana Vikri admitted that the extraordinary support given by the national team supporters made him emotional.

When Indonesia played the second leg of the 2020 AFF Cup semifinals against Singapore. The full support of supporters throughout Indonesia echoed until it went viral on social media.

Especially during the tense moments which later turned into cheers of joy when Nadeo Argawinata dismissed the Singapore penalty.

The moment was apparently also witnessed by Egy Maulana who later admitted to being emotional. Egy did not expect such an extraordinary reaction shown by the fans to support the national team.

"I saw some videos. Fans watched with their families, some watched in the cafe, it was really emotional for me and the players," said Egy in a press conference ahead of the first leg match.

"I don't know what to say, but in the end we made it to the final. I know the crowd was tense especially at the last minute there was a penalty," he continued.

Seeing the loyalty and totality of the supporters in the semifinals, Egy did not forget to say thank you. He also expressed his hope that fans would return to support and pray for the Garuda squad to be able to beat Thailand in the 2020 AFF Cup final.

"Thank you for always supporting, but this is not the last match, we still have a final. Keep supporting us, we want to be champions, we hope to bring the trophy to Indonesia. We have to be strong as a team," said Egy.

Furthermore, the FK Senica player also said that apart from the support and prayers from the fans, the players must also be able to appear confident in order to improve mentally. He also believes that under Shin Tae-yong's tutelage, the national team can perform even more and win the title.

"We have to believe we can win, because belief is important to be confident. This is not all about me, but all players want to give their best. Coach (Shin Tae-young) has also implemented what he will do in the final," he said.

The first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup final will take place at the National Stadium, Singapore. The national team players will start fighting at 19.30 WIB.
