JAKARTA - David Moyes said a change in mindset played an important role in the transformation of the status that West Ham United had experienced since last season from a mid-table subscription to a team that had the opportunity to fight for the top four standings.

Inheriting a team that was on the verge of relegation in the 2019/20 season, Moyes successfully ignited a transformation in the Hammers camp which he led to a sixth-place finish last season, the highest position in the Premier League era.

That transformation has also been seen this season, with Moyes guiding West Ham to beat rivals Liverpool and Chelsea as well as eliminating Manchester United and Manchester City from the Premier League Cup.

Not only that, in their debut appearance in the Europa League finals this season, West Ham also managed to lock up the last 16 ticket when the group stage still had one game left.

West Ham who are now in fourth place will travel to the Emirates to face Arsenal, who are two strips below them, in their Premier League matchday 17 on Wednesday, 15 December local time.

"We are in a good position ahead of the game against Arsenal. To finish above them last season was a good achievement," Moyes said as quoted by Antara.

"Now we are a few clubs that are being targeted by other teams, I can only say 'come on', we will face it and see how we can overcome it. We now feel we can fight anyone," he added.

Moyes emphasized that West Ham's focus at this time is not looking at which clubs they have managed to get past, but looking at the teams they can pursue next.

For all the achievements he has made with West Ham so far, Moyes mentions changing mindsets to be one aspect that plays an important role.

"The change in mindset played a big part. We want to try and be organized against teams that are good on the ball and are used to winning," he said.

"To be honest, we are still in the process of building a squad and team that can compete.

"We will continue to fight and I think the players have done a lot of good things.

"Now a lot of opponents are trying to make it difficult for us to score goals, that's part of the risk of being a big team, the opposing teams will try to stop you," concluded Moyes.
