Newcastle United Ready To Compete With Other Clubs To Sign Jesse Lingard From MU

JAKARTA - Newcastle United is ready to compete with other clubs for the signing of Manchester United (MU) player Jesse Lingard in the January transfer window, The Sun reported on Sunday.

As reported by Antara, Sunday, December 12, The Magpies are said to be "very interested" in signing the 28-year-old attacking midfielder.

However, according to trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement.

On the other hand, Romano believes that the race to secure Lingard's signature is still open for Premier League clubs.

West Ham had loaned Linggard in January and was reportedly interested in making the player permanent in the transfer market last summer.

The Hammers failed to agree to a deal with United because the asking price was deemed too high, namely 25 million pounds (about Rp476 billion).

Lingard's own contract will expire at the end of this season so United is expected to lower the player's price compared to releasing him for free.

Clubs such as AC Milan, AS Roma, and Barcelona have been linked with the Englishman in recent times.

Newcastle has reportedly made Lingard their main target and is ready to make him the highest-paid player in their history, as well as offering United a hefty transfer fee.

The newly rich club is expected to be busy bringing in new players and strengthening their squad in the January transfer window in order to stay in the English Premier League.

Newcastle currently sits 19th in the Premier League table and needs six points or two wins to move out of the relegation zone.

Newcastle coach Eddie Howe is also reportedly eyeing the likes of Ross Barkley, Nat Phillips, James Tarkowski, Kieran Trippier, and Harry Winks.
