JAKARTA - Sports cars are usually synonymous with smooth asphalt, not dirt or rock tracks. However, a number of manufacturers and modification houses are presenting higher-profile and tough-looking sports cars, following the footsteps of extreme models such as the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato and the Porsche 911 Dakar.

One of them comes from the Kuhl Racing modification house, which officially introduced the GR86 Outroad that will be sold in Japan at the end of 2026. The Japanese manufacturer's car is really transformed with the appearance of a modern rally car, as reported by Motor1, Thursday, January 1.

The most striking change lies in the foot-foot sector, Kuhl equips the GR86 Outroad with a special suspension system that raises the car about 3 inches. Not only that, there is also a hydraulic lift option that can increase the height up to 1.6 inches when needed, then lowered back for daily use.

Visually, the Outroad looks much more aggressive than the standard GR86, thick fender flares widen the wheelbase to accommodate large-profile tires. The front and rear bumpers are redesigned to increase the approach and departure angles.

The underbody protection plate, additional coating, extra lights, and roof rails further emphasize the aura of a street rally car. Behind the hood, the GR86 Outroad still relies on the standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine.

However, Kuhl offers an optional turbocharger package for consumers who want extra performance. With the support of revisions to the cooling system and ECU tuning, engine power is claimed to increase by around 50 hp from the standard 232 hp, manual and automatic transmission options are still available.

Interestingly, the GR86 Outroad is not just an exhibition car, Kuhl Racing plans to sell it as a complete conversion package for GR86 owners. Customers can also buy components separately, ranging from suspension, body kit, wheels, brakes, to performance improvements according to the desired extreme level.

For a complete conversion package, Kuhl has set a price of around 4,150,000 yen or equivalent to Rp. 441 million with the note that the basic car is already owned by the consumer. The body kit alone is priced at 1,771,000 yen or Rp. 188 million, the additional rim is 440,000 yen or Rp. 46 million, while the turbocharger option adds a cost of 1,250,000 yen or around Rp. 133 million.
