JAKARTA - The weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar has not made Auto2000 raise the price of vehicle components and oil sold at its workshop network. In fact, a number of materials used still depend on imported supplies.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Auto2000, Anton Jimmy Suwandy, said that there are no plans to adjust the price of oil or vehicle components. However, he did not rule out the possibility of changes in policy in the future in line with the development of exchange rates and market conditions.
"For oil, there has been no increase so far. But I don't know what the future will be like, especially now that the dollar is Rp. 18 thousand. There are several components such as imported oil, even though some are local as well," said Anton when met at Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta, not long ago.
According to Anton, Auto2000 does not implement a pricing strategy that directly follows the increase in costs due to the strengthening of the dollar. The company still considers market conditions and consumer purchasing power before deciding on price adjustments.
"Our strategy is not cost plus, so it is not immediately that the dollar rises 10 percent, then the price also rises 10 percent. We also see what the conditions in the market are like, we will increase according to the timing and figures that we hope can be accepted by the public," he added.
However, Anton admitted that there was no certainty about how long the prices of components and oil could be maintained. Currently, Auto2000 together with distributors are still trying to keep prices stable at least until the end of June.
"No one knows, but we are discussing with distributors that at least we will not increase this month. But in July onward we are still waiting for news, we coordinate with TAM whether there will be an increase or not," he said.
In the midst of ongoing economic uncertainty and exchange rate fluctuations, Anton advised consumers not to delay the purchase of vehicles or service needs. According to him, price changes can occur at any time if pressure on the exchange rate continues.
"I also appeal, friends in the branch, if you need to buy a car and service, don't delay it because if you look at the current condition, it can't be controlled," he concluded.
