JAKARTA - After succeeding with the SU7 model, Xiaomi is reportedly preparing a new brand called Sky Nomad, which marks a strategic shift to the long-range electric vehicle (EREV) market.

Quoting from the Carnewschina website, Thursday, May 21, along with the new brand identity, the company is also diversifying its battery supply chain by partnering with Sunwoda and CALB to supply power for its upcoming flagship SUV, according to a report by 21 Business Herald.

According to industry sources, the first model under the Sky Nomad brand, with the internal code "Kunlun N3," is scheduled to be launched onto the market in the second half of 2026. This vehicle is a full-size EREV SUV, with a length of over 5,300 mm and a wheelbase of around 3,100 mm.

The vehicle will be powered by a 1.5T range extender engine, which produces an estimated pure electric range of 400 km to 500 km and a combined range of around 1,500 km.

In an effort to optimize costs and reduce supply chain risks, Xiaomi has restructured its battery procurement strategy for the Sky Nomad line.

Sunwoda has been secured as the main supplier with a 60 percent share of the supply quota, while CALB will act as a secondary supplier with the remaining 40 percent. This is a major change from Xiaomi's previous models, SU7 and YU7, which heavily relied on CATL and FinDreams from BYD.

The Sky Nomad brand is designed to focus on the family-oriented EREV SUV segment, creating a separation from Xiaomi's main brand's focus on pure electric performance and high-tech aesthetics. Xiaomi aims to compete directly with established leaders such as Li Auto and Aito.

Xiaomi continues to strengthen its internal capabilities to support this multi-supplier strategy. The company's dedicated battery R&D team now numbers more than 220 members. In addition, Xiaomi operates its own battery pack factory in Yizhuang, Beijing, which will handle the assembly of some battery packs for its future fleet.
