JAKARTA - PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) responded to the recall that occurred in the United States, related to a problem with the automatic folding seat mechanism.

The problem relates to the failure of the anti-pinch system, a safety feature that should prevent the seat from continuing to move if it is blocked by an object or passenger.

HMID Chief Operating Officer, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, revealed that the case was a recall step that occurred in the United States (US), and in Indonesia based on technical monitoring and field reports, similar constraints were not found in the units sold.

"So if it's a recall for the Palisade, this happened in the United States, not in Indonesia. So Indonesia is zero accident," he said, in Jakarta, Thursday, April 16.

However, Hyundai Indonesia stated that it still adheres to global safety standards set by the principal, Hyundai Motor Company. The way it is done is by updating vehicle software through an over-the-air (OTA) system, a digital mechanism that allows updates without requiring customers to come directly to an official workshop.

As is known, the tragic incident in Ohio, United States, on March 7, 2026, made the child die due to being trapped in the automatic folding chair mechanism. The problem is related to the failure of the anti-pinch system, a safety feature that should prevent the chair from continuing to move if it is blocked by an object or passenger.

Further investigation revealed that Hyundai had actually received an initial report on the potential failure of this system since August 2025 in California. A consumer reported that his son was almost trapped in the second row seat that moved electrically. However, at that time, the manufacturer's internal inspection assessed that the seat mechanism was still functioning normally so that the case was closed in October 2025.
