JAKARTA - BMW North America announced a recall of a small number of 2014 and 2015 model year cars that use airbag inflators from supplier Autoliv. The problem lies in the so-called head airbag inflator not being produced according to specifications, potentially accelerating corrosion.

BMW explained that the biggest risk comes from the possibility of a failure in the welding connection that can trigger the separation of the inflator. This condition can make the stored gas leak out of the inflator.

Reported by Autoevolution, Tuesday, January 13, the situation is considered dangerous because the rapid separation of the inflator can increase the risk of injury for drivers and passengers. Meanwhile, if the gas leak occurs slowly, the airbag's consequences have the potential not to inflate as it should when needed.

In the recall document, at least six spare parts numbers are listed. This recall is also referred to as an extension of the 24V-288 campaign announced in April 2024, in which BMW recalled 5,761 vehicles in the United States and federal territories.

Even so, BMW said it had not received any reports of incidents related to the problem. All airbag modules suspected of being problematic will be replaced at no cost to vehicle owners.

Affected consumers will receive a notification by first-class mail no later than February 6, 2026. Meanwhile, dealers have been informed electronically since December 17, 2025.

The production range of vehicles included in the recall list is in the period from February 12, 2014 to April 23, 2014 for the Series 2, Series 3, and Series 4 lines. The models that are said to be affected include 228i, M235i, 320i, 328i, 335i, 428i, and 435i.
