The Price Of The Former BYD Seal Car Drops Drastically In The Market, Why?

JAKARTA - BYD Seal has officially launched in Indonesia, for the first time in January 2024 as part of the launch of the BYD brand in Indonesia with Atto 3 and Dolphin. Now, many have sold BYD Seals in used car conditions, and what has attracted attention is the price that has dropped dramatically.

BYD, which is a Chinese manufacturer, sold the latest Seal at prices ranging from IDR 639 million and IDR 750 million for the highest type. VOI editorial team also tried to see the used price on the used car online buying and selling site on Monday, December 8, the used BYD Seal was actually offered in the price range of IDR 450-500 million.

One of them is the BYD Seal Premium which has covered a distance of about 13,000 km. This car is offered at a price of IDR 439 million. This means that within one year, the price has fallen by IDR 200 million.

There is also a BYD Seal Performance with a low kilometer or below 10,000 km and the tax status is still active until 2026, offered with a tag of IDR 500 million, or down to IDR 250 million by the seller. The drop in the price of used electric cars, one of which is due to the price war between Chinese brands.

It also has an impact on people who are increasingly confused about when it is the right time to buy electric cars. Not to mention, there is a lot of news that the price of the battery is almost half the price of the car.

Meanwhile, the Head of Marketing PR & Government Relations BYD Luther Panjaitan, once stated that the used electric car market had not yet formed. Luther compared today's EV situation with the transition trend of manual transmission to automatic a few years ago.

"So it is natural that the secondary market market has not yet been formed. Typically, used car buyers here are still conservative, so traders take prices as low as possible. In the past, automatic transmission was not popular, now the conditions are reversed. So this is only a matter of the transition period," said Luther to the media crew.

BYD Seal itself has three variants with two powertrains, for Premium and Performance equipped with a lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 82.56 kWh. Although the power is similar, based on the NEDC trial the distance from Premium is claimed to reach 650 km, and Performance is 580 km.

The maximum Premium type is 230 kW and the 360 Nm torque is by relying on rear wheels driving, to speed up to 100 km per hour for 5.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the Performance type is wilder because it has a four-wheel drive capable of ejecting a maximum of 390 kW, and a 670 Nm torque.
