Gaikindo Remains Key To Target 850 Thousand Cars In 2025, Even Though The Market Is Sluggish

JAKARTA - The national automotive industry is still in a challenging phase until the close of 2025. In the midst of market pressure, the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has emphasized that it will not change the projection of national car sales which was set at 850 thousand units from the start.

The General Chairperson of Gaikindo, Putu Juli Ardika, stated that the target remains the official reference for the association and until now there has been no discussion to make revisions. According to him, this figure is still realistic if all industry players are able to optimize the momentum of sales in the remaining time of this year.

"Not 900 thousand, we are targeting 850 thousand," said Putu on the sidelines of the 2025 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) exhibition, Friday, November 21.

He emphasized that until now there has been no internal decision to change the target. Putu said that from the beginning Gaikindo's target reached 850 thousand units by the end of the year.

"Not yet (planned to revise the target), since the beginning our target has been 850 thousand," he continued.

However, Gaikindo is realistic in seeing the market conditions that have not fully recovered. Putu projects that sales will likely be slightly below the target, which is in the range of 800 thousand units.

"Yes, close to 800, that's it. It's projected like that. We're trying hard," he said.

Optimism is maintained by relying on various sales stimulus, one of which is through automotive exhibitions such as GJAW 2025. According to Putu, this event acts as a catalyst that encourages transactions through a lighter financing scheme and aggressive promo programs from exhibition participants.

"This exhibition is really facilitated, prices (cars) are affordable, there are really many programs that can be used to get vehicles at this exhibition," said Putu.

Based on Gaikindo data, sales of national car wholesales for the January period of October 2025 were recorded at 633,844 units. Meanwhile, retail sales were at the level of 660,659 units. Both achievements decreased compared to the same period the previous year.

In comparison, in January 'October 2024, wholesale sales reached 711,064 units and retail 731,113 units. This means that there was a difference in the decrease of 75,220 units and 70,454 units, respectively.
