Finally Revealed The Cause Of Tesla Car Exploding At The SPKLU

JAKARTA An investigation by BC's Technical Safety revealed the cause of the massive explosion of a Tesla unit at a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) located in Hope, British Columbia, Canada. It was revealed that the explosion was due to the use of an uncertified charging adapter.

The incident actually occurred on August 16, 2024, and involved a Tesla driver who was charging his car at a third-party charging station. Until finally an investigation was carried out.

According to the results of the investigation, during charging there was an abnormal voltage spike in the charging cable. This condition triggered an electric bow that caused a big explosion to throw the driver to the ground.

Upon inspection, the charging adapter used turned out to be not an official Tesla product and did not have security certification. BC's Technical Safety explains, the main source of the problem comes from a charger unit that has a short circuit in its battery module.

This then channeled abnormal stresses to the third-party adapter used, causing large electric sparks and explosions. "There was a short circuit between the driver's adapter and the provided charging cable, which triggered a large electric spark," the report reads, quoted from the Mirror, Wednesday, October 22.

A representative from the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association, Bob Porter, warned that the use of adapters or charging devices from unapproved third parties is very risky. Because it hasn't gone through a rigorous testing process.

There is a risk on third-party devices if they are not approved. The device has not been tested for safety," Porter said.

The victim's Tesla driver admitted to having used the same adapter for two years without having had any problems before. However, this incident proves that even though the device appears to be functioning normally, the risk remains if the tool does not meet applicable security standards.
