JAKARTA - Not much from the previous media, the automotive manufacturer from Croatia Rimac, which is known for its high-performance electric cars, has again rocked the automotive industry.

At the IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich, they introduced a new solid-state battery prototype that promises ultra-fast charging speed. The battery was developed by Rimac Technology, an internal research and development unit, in collaboration with ProLogium and Mitsubishi Chemical Group.

Quoting InsideEvs, Monday, September 8, Rimac's solid-state battery with an output power of 850 kW, was able to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 6.5 minutes. This is a major breakthrough that has the potential to change the habits of electric car users, making charging faster than refueling.

This speed is much superior to Rimac's own latest liquid-based cylindrical battery. This innovation fundamentally solves the "distance anxiety" problem that often haunts potential electric car buyers. However, there is one big challenge: DC charging stations today, whose speed is on average 350 kW, should be increased to be able to accommodate power of this magnitude.

The good news is that the charging station operator still has time to clean up. Rimac plans to supply these solid-state batteries to other high-performance electric vehicles as Tier-1 suppliers, with production targets starting in the fourth quarter of 2027. As proof of its partnership, Rimac Technology has supplied components to well-known brands such as BMW Group and Porsche.

Apart from charging the flash, this battery also offers extraordinary security features. Rimac claims that there is no risk of a fire or explosion at the cell level, thus ensuring full safety. Even performance at extreme temperatures is unquestionable, as this battery is able to maintain more than 95 percent of its energy even at a temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Technically, this battery excels in almost all aspects. With a power density of 2,210 W/kg, this 100 kWh solid-state battery is much lighter and conciser than a similar cylinder battery. This battery pack has only a volume of 285 liters and weighs 384 kg, making it an ideal choice for electric cars that require performance and space efficiency.
