JAKARTA China's dominance in the electric vehicle battery industry (EV) is increasingly undeniable. The latest data from South Korean market research firm SNE Research shows that two battery giants from China, CATL and BYD, collectively control more than 55 percent of the global market share from January to July 2025.

Based on a report released on September 3, 2025, reported by CnEVpost, the total global EV battery installations reached 590.7 GWh, a 35.3 percent jump compared to the same period last year.

CATL Stays Superior

CATL continues to maintain its position as market leader. With the battery installation reaching 221.4 GWh, the company controls 37.5 percent of the global market share. Despite a slight decline from 37.9 percent in January-June 2025, CATL remains the only supplier to make it past 30 percent of worldwide market share.

BYD Menjak Naik

BYD, also known as an electric vehicle manufacturer, showed impressive growth. Their battery installation hit 105.0 GWh, up 52.4 percent from the previous year. This put BYD in second place with a market share of 17.8 percent, up from 15.8 percent in the same period last year.

Collectively, CATL and BYD installed a total of 326.4 GWh EV batteries, accounting for 55.3 percent of the total global.

The SNE Research report also highlights the fact that six of the world's ten largest EV battery manufacturers are Chinese companies. Apart from CATL and BYD, other Chinese companies included in this list are:

CALB: Ranked fourth with 4.4 percent market share.

Gotion High-tech: seventh place with 3.6 percent market share.

Eve Energy: ninth place with 2.9 percent market share.

Svolt Energy: Tenth place with 2.6 percent market share.

Meanwhile, producers from other countries also show various performances:

LG Energy Solution (South Korea): Staying in third place with a market share of 9.5 percent, despite a decline from 11.8 percent in the previous year.

SK On (South Korea): Fifth place with 4.2 percent.

Panasonic (Japan): Sixth place with 3.6 percent.

Samsung SDI (South Korea): eighth place with 3.0 percent.
