Closer To Genesis Magma Ready To Hit The Automotive Market In 2027

JAKARTA The presence of a performance sub-brand from Genesis, namely Magma, is getting closer to reality. Their first car, Genesis GV60 Magma, is scheduled to go on sale in Korea later this year, with its official photos released in November.

Reported by Top Gear, Wednesday, August 20, Magma, which is part of the Hyundai Group, will share a lot of technology with Hyundai's performing car, Ioniq 5 N. GV60 Magma is projected to have up to 592 hp of power with smartly distributed torques for optimal traction. Despite using a similar technology base, Genesis Magma promises a different driving experience and focuses more on luxury and perfection.

The next development of the magma car will be handled by the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC) in Germany, a state-of-the-art 150 million euro facility with 400 expert staff. The team is led bydia Johnson, a figure who is also responsible for Hyundai Ioniq 5 N development and the Ford Focus RS program.

Johnson stated that the first Magma car developed in Germany will emerge in 2027. He added that the changes made to these cars would be "far more complex" than the GV60. The focus is not only on power, but also on the balance between performance, luxury, and weight of vehicles.

Although Genesis focuses on electric cars (EVs), Magma will not be completely limited to this technology. The concepts that have been introduced include performance versions of the GV80 SUV and even the G80 sedan aimed at the Middle East market that still prioritizes gasoline engines.

ung Harrer, Head of the Hyundai Group Development Center in Korea, revealed that they are developing an EV-only platform for Genesis that can increase travel distance. In addition, the platform is also designed to be able to adapt to future technologies such as the EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicles), where the gasoline engine serves as a generator to power the power system over long distances.

When asked about the difference between Magma and Ioniq N,omor Johnson explained, "N is 'the naughty one who likes the corner'. While Magma is not just about performance on track, although this car is still capable of doing it. Magma is a more sophisticated and luxurious car."

Johnson stressed that Magma is not only about being the most powerful in its class, but about optimal balance.
