This Electric Taxi In China Is The First In The World With 100 Second Battery Exchange Capability

JAKARTA A new era of more efficient and fast electric transportation is underway in China. A total of 1,000 units of Changan Oshan 520 EV electric sedan, which carries Choco-SEB battery exchange technology from battery giant CATL, have been officially delivered to taxi operators in Chongqing City.

Changan Oshan 520 is an electric variant of the Changan Eado gasoline sedan. This car has dimensions of length 4770 mm, width 1840 mm, and height 1470 mm with an axis distance of 2,765 mm. In terms of exterior, Oshan 520 comes with an elegant design, including a conventional door handle, a frameless grip, and an elongated headlights. The interior is equipped with a 10.25-inch display, a thin LCD instrument panel, and a transmission lever behind the steering wheel. Other interesting features include driver seats equipped with heating and ventilation, four speakers, as well as a 360-degree camera system.

Launching CarNewsChina, Monday, May 26, powered by a 105 kW (141 hp) electric motor on the front, Oshan 520 also uses a 25 # Choco-SEB LFP battery from CATL with a capacity of 56 kWh. With this battery, the car can cover a distance of up to 515 km (CLTC)

Choco-SEB technology itself is an ambitious project from CATL, the world's largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer. Launched last year, the project aims to standardize battery exchange systems across China and build 30,000 charging stations. A number of leading automotive manufacturers such as Changan, GAC, FAW, SAIC, BAIC, SGMW, and Nio have joined the battery exchange syndicate initiated by CATL. And on May 25, the initial delivery of electric cars with Choco-SEB technology began with Changan Oshan 520.

Chongqing Becomes The First City To Adopt CATL Battery Swap Station

On May 25, Changan Automobile announced the delivery of the first batch of 1,000 units of Oshan 520 to taxi operators on Chongqing. Changan also revealed that it had secured more than 15,000 orders by Oshan 520 from corporate clients. Chongqing, which is Changan's hometown, became the first city to adopt the latest battery exchange station from CATL. Currently, CATL has built 34 stations in the city and plans to add 16 more stations by the end of 2025. Each station is capable of storing up to 30 battery units and making a swap process in a very short time, namely 100 seconds.
