More Than 200,000 Hyundai, Kia, And Genesis EV Units Affected By Recalls In The US, This Is The Cause

JAKARTA - Unpleasant news came from brands under the Hyundai Motor Group umbrella, namely Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. Recently, the company announced the recall of more than 200,000 units in the United States.

Launching from InsideEVs, Tuesday, November 26, this affected vehicle had to go through a recall because it suddenly lost power.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall covers 145,234 Hyundai and Genesis EV lines, including Ioniq 5 2022-2024, Ioniq 6 2023-2025, GV70 2023-2025, and GV60 2023-2025. Then, 62,872 units of Kia EV6 2022-2024 were also affected by the recall.

Affected vehicles have problems with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) system responsible for charging a low-voltage 12V battery using power from a high-voltage system.

ICCU is a common point of failure at EV Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia on the E-GMP platform, and if it fails, 12V battery charging will stop. The voltage decreased, causing the loss of power to cause the car to lose power or speed.

In addition, the owner also reported losing energy while on the expressway which caused the car to suddenly drop power below normal speed before stopping completely.

I was driving on the highway and there was a 'Check Electrical System' warning. The power in the car then completely ran out and could not go above 45 mpj (or 72 km/hour), said one of the owners of Ioniq 5 AWD 2024 in his report.

Previously, the US safety regulator opened an investigation into Ioniq 5 2022 in early summer 2023. A month later, the agency opened a similar investigation into the same issue on Kia EV6 2022.
