Honda Showcases Advanced Solid-State Battery Assembly Line In Japan

JAKARTA - Recently, Honda Motor Co., Ltd launched an all-solid state battery production line for its future electric vehicle. This production line is built on the property Honda R&D Co., Ltd located in Sakura City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

In addition to verifying the technical process of starting the mass production process on this demonstration route, this upright manufacturer with the 'H logo will determine the basic specifications of battery cells.

The goal is to start implementing solid-state batteries on the electrification model to be introduced in the second half of the decade.

President and Representative Director of Honda R&D Co., Ltd, Keiji Otsu said that the operation of the demonstration production line for the battery could be a start for companies in the better electrification sector in the future.

"Now, the start of the operation of the demonstration production line for solid-state batteries is in sight, and we can say that we have reached an important milestone for Honda and Japan," Otsu said on the manufacturer's official website, Friday, November 22.

Honda builds a demonstration line as a provision to mass-produce battery all-solid states in the future. The line has a total area of about 27,400 m2 equipped with facilities and equipment enabling verification of each production process.

Verification of this production process includes balancing and mixing electrode materials, coating and compressing electrode assembly rolls and cell formation, and assembly of modules.

It is estimated that the construction of this facility building will be completed in the spring of this year and almost all the main equipment needed for verification has been installed.

The manufacturer plans to start production of the all-solid state battery on the demonstration line in January 2025 and immediately verify the mass production technology by setting costs for each process while developing battery cell specifications.

This step is in line with Honda's vision of realizing carbon neutrality by 2050 on all company products and activities.

Prior to that, the manufacturer also determined to present emission-free vehicles consisting of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and fuel cells (FCEV) representing 100 percent of its latest global vehicle sales by 2040.
