Mazda Opens Option To Awaken Mazda 6, Using CX-60 Platform?

JAKARTA - Some time ago, Mazda had decided to stop production from Mazda 6 in several markets including Japan.

Although it has been confirmed that it will be injected dead, this medium-body sedan is also considered to be revived in several versions. Now, the Hiroshima-based manufacturer, Japan, opens up the possibility of presenting it in a 6-cylinder engine with rear wheels driving and the same Large Architecture platform as the CX-60.

Mazda Program Manager for CX-60 and CX-80, Kohei Shibata said it still has a desire to present the sedan as well as add to the variety of the global sedan market.

"If there is a possibility (presenting Mazda 6), of course we want to consider it too," said Shibata, quoted from Drive, Thursday, November 14.

Meskipun demikian, ia menyadari bahwa pasar sedan sangat kecil untuk saat ini dibandingkan dengan SUV. Tetapi jika pasar inginnya, maka model tersebut akan dibangkitkan.

"Wartawan selalu mengatakan kepada saya bahwa Anda harus membuat sedan, namun pasarnya sangat kecil. Jadi, jika orang-orang mulai membeli kendaraan semacam itu, maka kita akan membuat kendaraan itu," tambah Shibata.

Rumors of the return of Mazda 6 have actually been circulating for a long time. It is reported that this sedan will share a platform with CX-60. Thus, this increases the possibility that the latest Mazda 6 will be launched as a car with a conventional fuel engine (ICE) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), with a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine and a 3.3 liter 6-cylinder turbo.

With this large capacity engine, this sedan will have a power of 280 dk and 340 dk. Its presence will certainly be eagerly awaited, considering that Mazda 6 is known as a model that has impressive performance, accompanied by a sporty design.

For now, Mazda has chosen to focus on four major SUVs carrying Large Architectures such as CX-60 and CX-80 for both Europe and Japan and CX-70 as well as CX-90 on the North American market.
