BYD Plans To Add Electric Cars In Australia, Will Present Cheap EVs

JAKARTA - BYD has confirmed plans to bring its smallest electric car to enliven Australia's automotive market, expanding its lineup of models in the country.

Quoting from the Drive page, Wednesday, October 30, it is estimated that the model to be presented by the Chinese brand is the Seagull or mini Dolphin model known in several foreign markets.

Currently, BYD Dolphin is the electric vehicle of Australia's most affordable BYD, which was first launched in mid-2023 at a price of 38,890 Australian dollars or around Rp. 400 million.

EVDirect CEO of Australian BYD importers David Smitherman also ensured that he would not lower the price of BYD Dolphin in order to continue to compete with several well-known brands such as MG and GWM.

"We want to make sure that we protect the brand. We are here for the long term, and I want to make sure that we always prioritize brands. When there is price fluctuations it will certainly harm a brand," he said.

For this reason, he ensures the Australian BYD's commitment to continue to expand its product lineup, and most recently there is a Mini Dolphin which will immediately compete with MG 4 and GWM Ora.

As is known, the model is also present in Thailand, with more compact specifications than Dolphin, with a length of 3,780 mm, a width of 1,715 mm, and a height of 1,540 mm. BYD Dolphin is much larger with a length of 4,290 mm, a width of 1,770 mm, and a height of 1,570 mm.

Presence in Thailand and Australia is certainly a breath of fresh air for the Indonesian automotive market, and BYD Motor Indonesia does plan to present another model that fills all segments.
