BMW Recalls 1,150 I4 Electric Sedan Units In The US Due To Rangka Sasis Issues

JAKARTA - German car manufacturer BMW is facing an unpleasant situation by having to recall several versions of the i4 Gran Coupe electric sedan in the United States (US).

This step was taken after serious problems were found in a potentially dangerous chassis frame.

According to a report from InsideEVs, Tuesday, September 3, this recall involved a total of 1,150 vehicles, consisting of the BMW i4 eDrive40, i4 xDrive40, and i4 M50 US specifications manufactured between March 7 and April 27, 2024. This decision was taken after several months earlier BMW also made separate withdrawals for the i4 and i5 models related to battery problems.

The main problem that is the reason for this recall is the error in the production of longitudinal chassis on the left side of the vehicle. According to a report from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Agency, the framework is not produced according to specifications by suppliers, which have the potential to cause cracks. This crack could result in serious disruption to the frame, especially in the event of an accident, which could damage the area of second row seats and high voltage components, increasing the risk of injury and fire.

BMW stated that they had not received reports of customer complaints or accidents related to this matter. However, as a precaution, BMW will replace the affected components for free across its authorized dealer network.
