JAKARTA - In the midst of uncertainty in the condition of the Indonesian automotive market, Indonesia managed to become the largest contributor to exports of vehicles in ASEAN during the first half of 2024 with a total export of 218,000 units or a decrease of 12 percent compared to last year in the same period.
Of this amount, Toyota became the largest contributor by sending around 132,000 units abroad or successfully contributing 60 percent of the total national vehicle exports.
President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) Nandi Julyanto, said that this shows the resilience and adaptability of the industry in facing global challenges and encourages automotive players to continue to innovate in order to increase competitiveness.
"Although the export performance of national automotive vehicles in the first half of 2024 experienced a correction, the role of export electrification gave optimism for an increase in exports in the future," Nandi said in his statement, Wednesday, August 7.
Of these, around 4,400 units of which are Toyota electrification vehicles that were successfully exported within the first six months of this year. Around 2,200 of them are the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid and 2,000 other units are the Yaris Cross Hybrid model.
Meanwhile, Vice President Director of PT. TMMIN Bob Azam, said the achievements in these two models show that Toyota's electrification technology innovation produced in Indonesia can be well received by the international market while strengthening the position of manufacturers in the country's automotive industry.
"Toyota's export achievement of electrified vehicles through the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid and Yaris Cross Hybrid models in the first half of 2024 not only strengthens the depth of the Toyota industry in Indonesia as a globally interested high-tech vehicle manufacturer, but also underscores the importance of developing a competitive automotive industry," said Bob.

These two models have been exported to various countries, consisting of Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. It is hoped that these electrification vehicles can answer the needs suitably in each market.
It is hoped that this achievement will be a good capital for manufacturers in navigating the remaining 2024 period and can reach the same level as the performance in the previous year.
In addition, this step needs to be supported by strengthening the domestic market, optimizing logistics schemes, developing Human Resources (HR), and adopting high technology to become added value in this industry.
"This effort is a strategic step to support the Indonesian automotive industry in achieving and maintaining superior positions in the increasingly competitive global market," concluded Bob.
