Mercedes-Benz And Collaborative Reformers For '1 Car For 100 Corals' Program At GIIAS 2024

JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz collaborated with marine conservation organization Reeformers, which focuses on coral transplantation, during the GIIAS 2024. They launched the 1 Car for 100 Corals program, which is a manifestation of Mercedes-Benz' commitment to climate protection and air pollution control through coral reef recovery.

In this program, every purchase of cars during GIIAS 2024 will donate funds for the adoption of 100 coral reefs in Manado waters, North Sulawesi, managed by Reeformers. Coral reefs are known to produce more oxygen than tropical rainforests, making it very important for marine ecosystems and clean air.

"As well as the international Mercedes-Benz campaign, namely Land-Sea-Air, we are trying to achieve a more sustainable automotive business in the next decade. This collaboration with Reeformers marks a strong commitment of Mercedes-Benz in maintaining environmental sustainability," said Roelof Lamberts, CEO of PT Inchcape Indomobil Distribution Indonesia, at GIIAS, Tuesday, July 23.

Mercedes-Benz has been working with Reeformers since last year, recording significant progress in coral reef recovery in the Manado Sea. More than 2,560 coral specimens have been successfully planted with a high survival rate of 95 percent.

"The success of this movement is not only evident from the fertile growth of corals, but also their positive impact on the health of the surrounding ecosystem, which is now a new habitat for other marine biota," Lamberts added.

This collaboration not only provides benefits for the automotive sector but also empowers local communities by creating economic opportunities through routine monitoring and marine environmental maintenance work.

"Through this partnership, we are not only committed to preserving the environment, but also to be holisticly beneficial for the people around us. We hope this effort will be an example for other industries to engage in sustainable marine conservation," he concluded.
