Mercedes-Benz Announces Recall Of More Than 1,400 C-Class Units Due To This Problem

JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz announced the recall of 1,465 units of the 2023 C-Class model in Australia. The cause of this program is to fix problems in side airbags.

The German automotive manufacturer revealed that a series of airbag cables on the driver's side and passengers have the potential to be damaged due to the operation of armchair clothing so that it interferes with the operation of side airbags installed in seats.

"If an accident occurs, airbags that do not expand properly can increase the risk of injury or death for vehicle passengers," said the brand, quoted from CarExpert, Tuesday, July 9.

Mercedes-Benz appealed to vehicle owners to contact the dealer to make repairs as soon as possible free of charge.

This also adds to the list of global Mercedes-Benz recalls. Last June in the US market, 15,000 EQE and EQS models experienced problems with battery management software systems that triggered the death of high-voltage systems.

The recall includes EQE and EQS sedan and SUV versions. The manufacturer says that this software defect affects 100 percent of vehicle performance.

The problem started in October 2023 when Mercedes-Benz investigated reports from dealers in Denmark regarding a high-voltage battery warning message displayed on a new vehicle instrument panel before delivery.

Then, the problem arose for units in the US in November 2023 showing a reduced driving force accompanied by a warning message.

The manufacturer has carried out an initial investigation focused on potential errors in the high-voltage battery management system, but further analysis found that excessive diagnostic requests from other control units in the car could weigh down the system's memory.

Long story short, last May Mercedes-Benz discovered a potential safety risk and began a recall period after reviewing production records.

Mercedes-Benz will begin to notify affected vehicle owners before July 23, 2024 and urge them to take their cars to the dealer network. To deal with this problem, the dealer will upgrade the battery management software system for free.
