Mercedes-Benz Electric Car Not Yet CKD, This Is Inchscope's Answer

JAKARTA - PT Inchcape Indomobil Distribution Indonesia has officially introduced the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 SUV as the latest electric vehicle in the Indonesian market. The presence of this model also strengthens the commitment of manufacturers in electrification in the country.

However, the distributor of premium brands in Indonesia stated that the model is an imported product (CBU) from Germany and will not be assembled locally. Then, when will the EV Mercedes-Benz car or EQ series be assembled in Indonesia?

CEO of PT Inchcape Indomobil Distribution Indonesia Roelof Lamberts said that his party has a target to localize EQ series products in Indonesia. What's more, the factory in Wanaherang, West Java has a qualified capacity to produce many cars.

"In general, our target is to make this local EQ series raft," Lamberts told the media at MH Thamrin, Jakarta, Thursday, June 20.

"For there is room for our electric car raft, there must be a change in the production line in Wanaherang. It will happen but not in the current EQ line," added Lamberts.

He also added that the latest vehicles will be assembled locally starting in 2027 in Wanaherang, West Java, but Lamberts is still silent about the name of the model.

Now, Inchcape's Wanaherang, West Java factory has produced a number of Mercedes-Benz models, including A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S Class, GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, and two AMG models namely A 35 Sedan and GLA 35.

The factory stands on an area of 42 hectares and has been declared an automotive producer with Eco-Industry certification from TUV-Rheinland.
