Porsche 718 Cayman And Gasoline Engine Boxster Allegedly Stop Production October 2025

JAKARTA - According to dealer documents that were allegedly leaked, the production of the Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster with gasoline engines will be discontinued in October 2025.

Early in 2022, Porsche confirmed rumors that the 718 Boxsters and 718 Caymans would switch to power in the mid-2020s.

Towards the end of last year, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer announced their "Flexline" capability of accommodating the production of gasoline and electric engines in the same assembly line. This hints that Porsche may still retain versions of the coupe and convertible 718 gasoline-engined cars on their product lines, just like they did with the Tigers and Tigers EVs. However, according to leaked dealer documents, the production period of this gasoline-engine sports car will not last long.

Launching Autoblogging, June 15, the document was posted by social media user Zerin Dube, allegedly from a Porsche dealer portal and informed the dealer that "The production of all 982 models is currently planned to end in October 2025." Number 982 refers to Porsche's internal code for the 718 car.

In addition, according to the same source, Porsche is reportedly increasing unit sales with manual transmission due to limited availability of PDK double coupling gearbox.

The next generation of 718 will be built on the new SSP (Scalable Systems Platform) architecture of Volkswagen Group which will replace VW's special EV MEB, PPE, and J1 platforms. This SSP architecture is flexible enough to accommodate various types of cars, ranging from city cars with 100 horsepower to hypercars with more than 1,600 horsepower power. The special variant to be used for twin cars 718 is referred to as SSP Sport.
