Geneva International Motor Show Not Continued, This Is The Reason

JAKARTA - Bad news came from one of the largest automotive events in the world, the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS). It was announced that this event was stopped for next year's edition indefinitely.

Cited from Autocar, Saturday, June 1, executives said that market conditions after the challenging pandemic and the large amount of uncertainty in the automotive industry have reduced the appeal of major exhibitions in Europe.

President of GIMS Alexandre de Senrclens, assessed that the termination of this event was due to a lack of interest from a number of automotive manufacturers to participate. In addition, the increasing competition from the Paris Motor Show and the IAA Mobility Show is also one of the causes.

If this event continues, it will pose too great a risk that the organizers must make this tough decision.

"This decision follows the recognition that market conditions in Europe are not conducive to future edition success," wrote the organizer of the GIMS Committee Permanent du Salon International de I'Automobile.

However, this decision has no impact on the GIMS event which took place in Doha, Qatar. The event, which began to be held in 2023, will continue at the end of next year.

"This regrettable decision should not reduce the efforts and determinations we have made to regain our success," de Senuclens said.

The GIMS 2024 event which was held from February 26 to March 3 is the last edition held in Geneva, Switzerland. This edition marks the return of this automotive exhibition since 2019 and has been absent for several years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

First presented in 1905, GIMS is one of the largest and oldest automotive events in the world. Over the years, the event has become a forum for various manufacturers in introducing their famous products, such as Toyota GR Supra and Lamborghini Huracan Evo.
