EV Requests Drop, GM Select Presents PHEV Model In 2027

JAKARTA - General Motors (GM), a company that houses brands such as Chevrolet and Cadillac, has confirmed that it will present the latest plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles in 2027.

GM CEO Mary Barra, said it was set to set the launch time for the latest cars to comply with increasingly stringent emission standard regulations and delay the presence of electric vehicles (EVs) amid declining demand.

"How long will the hybrid be part of the solution depends on how fast we get a strong charging infrastructure," Barra said as quoted by CarBuzz, Monday, May 20.

Although its focus is currently shifting to hybrid technology, GM will also improve the ecosystem that accommodates the presence of EVs by increasing the number of charging stations.

The PHEV car is said to be the right option to bridge to the EV completely because this vehicle can run in two ways, namely pure gasoline and electricity. Although the distance from pure electricity is not impressive, PHEV can contribute to reducing emissions carbon.

Although they did not mention which vehicles would be used as PHEV models, it is estimated that their best-selling cars such as Tahoe, Suburban, Equinox, and Escalade will get this approach.

In addition, companies from the United States (US) also have no plans to leave the EV segment. The company has taken various ways to provide space for environmentally friendly vehicles, one of which is by injecting Microsoft dead for the latest Bolt EV.

From the Chevrolet brand, the company intends to launch the latest EV Equinox, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV. In fact, the Detroit-based manufacturer will present a more affordable trim for the Equinox and BlaZer models.

For Cadillac, GM will soon sell its newest models such as Optiq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ. The GMC brand also currently has Hummer EV and Sierra EV. GM plans to sell between 200,000 and 300,000 EV units in North America this year.
