Zeekr Expands Market In Southeast Asia, Indonesia?

JAKARTA - A premium electric vehicle brand from China, Zeekr intends to expand its sales market by opening its first operational factory in Southeast Asia (ASEAN), to be precise in Thailand.

Reporting from Paultan, Monday, March 18, the company under Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd will work closely with distributors to sell EVs in the first half of this year, a brand spokesperson said.

Apart from Thailand, the manufacturer said it had signed contracts with a number of local distributors in the ASEAN region, including Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines, and it is estimated that sales of the market will only begin in the second quarter of 2024.

Zeekr's expansion plan in ASEAN strengthened previous reports when they announced they were developing right-leaning vehicles in the hope of starting deliveries of a number of cars to customers this year. Thus, this opens up opportunities for brands to expand their market to several developing countries, such as Malaysia and Indonesia. However, Zeekr is not yet willing to disclose this plan openly.

As is known, Zeekr has also targeted Europe to be the next international destination. In April last year, the company began showing off its vehicle models in the Netherlands and Sweden. Meanwhile, on December 11, 2023, the company delivered the first version of the European Zeekr 001 in the Netherlands.

As additional information, Zeekr was founded in 2021 and its first model, Zeekr 001, launched on April 15, 2021, with deliveries starting in October 2021 in the local market in China.
