JAKARTA - PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) has just launched an electric car Omoda E5 which is priced at less than IDR 500 million, and details use a Lithium Ferro Phospate (LFP) battery.

At the time of launch, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that the Chery Omoda E5 uses nickel-based batteries. Responding to this, Chery is open to the use of nickel-based batteries.

This was revealed by Zeng Shuo Assistant President Director of PT Chery Sales Indonesia, he said that this car (Omode E5) is now equipped with an LFP or Lithium Ferro Phosphate battery, not nickel-based.

"But in Chery, this model has several types of batteries, we continue to collaborate and this LFP is one of our suppliers. We also have our own battery factory that produces nickel-based batteries, (which produces) nickel-based batteries and LFPs," he said, during its launch, Monday, February 5.

He further said that Chery is actually equipped with several types of battery types, but the distance is not much different (nickel and LFP).

"And of course to deepen the localization of Chery, which we are committed to bringing more opportunities and development to this country, we are also considering using nickel-based batteries on our next product line. So, that is our plan," he added.

He emphasized that Chery is determined to reach the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) by 60 percent, for the production of the Omoda E5 electric car.

"Because we are also determined to reach TKDN 60 percent, and having a local battery source will help that. So, we're already going there," he concluded.
