JAKARTA - Volvo has confirmed it will become a fully electric vehicle brand by the end of the decade. Before entering this stage, the company confirmed it would bring updates to several hybrid models.
The series of updates consist of a mid-hybrid and plug-in hybrid model as well as hinting the Swedish manufacturer will retain the gasoline engine in the coming years.
Bjorn Annwall, Volvo's Chief Operating Officer, said that models that will be based on SPA1, such as XC90, will receive some updates ranging from exterior to interior.
"Although we introduce EX90, we are still selling XC90 and I don't think they will eat each other in terms of sales," Annwall said as quoted by Carscoops, Monday, February 5.
Annwall added that it updated XC90 considering that the model is one of the best-selling products ever assembled by manufacturers. However, there are next steps that can be taken on exterior structuring, interior design, and also infotainment.
"This is definitely something we invest in, it's not a big investment and we know very well how to do it," added Annwall.

It has not been explained in detail what cars will receive updates other than XC90, possibly a number of these models include S60, S90, V60, V90, and XC60, carrying similar platforms.
The company, based in Gothenburg, Sweden, has also not disclosed whether some of these models will get performance updates in the near future.
The announcement of this coincided with Polestar's recent share transfer to Geely. Reportedly, Volvo concluded that the brand is becoming an obstacle in resources and this time they are more focused on its future products.
