JAKARTA - Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is currently a hot topic of conversation because it can be used in various fields, one of which is the automotive industry. This will be used by Mazda to support production activities that can cut the time for the development of electric vehicles (EVs).

Reporting from Drive, Tuesday, January 30, this car manufacturer from Japan has invested around USD 16 million (or approximately IDR 252.8 billion) for British AI-based technology company Secondmind.

With a focus on electric vehicles, the tech company said it could cut new car development times year-on-month, claiming that it could reduce errors in the design to reduce the number of prototypes needed.

"The automotive industry needs to accelerate speed and efficiency in development because of diversification of market needs and increasing sophistication and technological complexity," said Naohito Saga, Head of Mazda Research and Development.

Previously, Mazda had agreed to an agreement with the technology company at the end of 2020 and is now expanding the partnership to focus on technical complexity in the design and development of the latest model.

The Japanese manufacturer has teamed up with Secondmind in helping calibrate the ECU for the next generation of gasoline and diesel engines.

This collaboration is in line with the company's vision to sell 25 to 40 percent of electric vehicles from its global sales in 2030. Currently, Mazda only sells one available electric vehicle (EV) model globally, namely MX-30.

However, the sale of this environmentally friendly SUV is not as successful as its competitors. In fact, this car was officially removed from the US and Australia last year.

Meanwhile, Mazda will launch the model in the second half of this year through the single agent holding the brand, Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI). Mazda MX-30 was previously exhibited at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
