JAKARTA - US chipmaker Nvidia announced that Li Auto, a pioneer of long-range electric vehicles (EVs) from China, has chosen Nvidia Drive Thor's centralized car computer to power its next-generation fleet.

In addition to Li Auto, Nvidia also reported in the company's release, January 8, other electric vehicle makers from China, namely GWM (Great Wall Motor), ZEEEKR and Xiaomi, have adopted the Nvidia Drive Orin platform to power their intelligent automatic driving system.

Meanwhile, according to Reuters, Tuesday, January 9, the chip called H20, which has now been re-scheduled for the Chinese market, is the strongest of the three chips developed by Nvidia to meet US export restrictions announced in October 2023.

Earlier, Reuters also reported that Chinese companies were reluctant to buy H20 chips that had experienced a decline in quality, and were testing domestic alternatives amid concerns that the US could again tighten restrictions.

Apart from H20, Nvidia plans to launch two other chips that comply with the new L20 and L2 restrictions. But the chip company has yet to announce sales of the three chips.

By the end of December, Nvidia had also launched a modified version of a state-of-the-art game chip designed to comply with the new rules.

Nvidia is said to bet on this chip to help maintain its market share in China after export restrictions from the United States stopped shipping its products, including advanced A800 and H800 artificial intelligence chips.

The A800 and H800 themselves were introduced as alternatives to customers in China in November 2022, about a month after the United States first restricted microchip exports and advanced equipment to China.

H20, L20, and L2 include most of Nvidia's latest features for artificial intelligence work, but with cut computing power to comply with the new rules.
