JAKARTA - Volkswagen announced plans for the implementation of the North America Charging Standard (NACS), for future vehicles starting in 2025.
Quoted from the InsideEVs page, Tuesday, December 20, this announcement should come as no surprise because almost all other major car manufacturers have also done the same. It seems that Volkswagen really has no choice but to make a switch, or the company will suffer huge competitive losses.
For information, in early July, as reported by Gizmochina, Volkswagen was reportedly in discussions with Tesla to adopt the NACS technology, with the aim of unifying charging standards for electric vehicles in North America.
Not only Volkswagen, but the Audi and Porsche brands will also implement the same and from 2025.
Interestingly, the three companies are exploring adapter solutions for vehicles that wish to access the network. This means that unlike most other companies that have committed to NACS, which already has access to adapters starting in 2024.
"Currently, with the commitment of the VW Group, almost all major automotive manufacturers participate and support the common vision, to improve the charging experience for all electric vehicle drivers. This is just the beginning of our industry's efforts to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy," said Rebecca Tinucci, Senior Director of Charges at Tesla.
