JAKARTA - As previously reported by VOI, the MG5 sedan achieved the worst safety title by winning zero stars in a hit test conducted by the Australation of the New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) along with Mahindra Scorpio 4WD.
Knowing this, Morris Garage (MG) plans to accelerate the latest structural and safety technology improvements in order to increase the safety value of the model.
Reporting from Drive, Monday, December 18, the British manufacturer will provide a series of the latest accident avoidance features, such as lane-keep assists, traffic sign recognition, and an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system.
The company is willing to invest in developing an increase in the model worth US$4 million or around Rp62 billion. The impact of this increase on prices remains to be seen, given the many new advanced safety features removed to keep prices affordable.
MG has yet to confirm whether they will hand back MG5 to ANCAP to be retested in an upgraded version, however, it is unlikely that they will invest in increased safety if this is not planned.

The manufacturer has also not announced any significant changes to the structure of the front collision for the sedan or other parts of the airbag. So, maybe this car doesn't meet the five-star standard even though it has been updated.
The AEB system will be improved in order to operate well at the intersection and prevent cars from turning to other lanes. Currently, the MG5 is only equipped with pedestrians and cyclist detections. In ANCAP testing, this feature only works for motorcycle users.
The model achieved zero stars in terms of safety after passing a series of tests, including the Protection of Adult Passengers with a score of 37, Safety Assistance with a value of 13, Vulnerable Road User Protection with a value of 42, and Child Occupants Protection with a figure of 58.
